As a boy, I never seemed to be far from pencils, crayons and paper - I loved drawing.

However, during my teenage years my burning ambition was to be a fast jet pilot in the RAF.

When, for various reasons this was not to be, I turned back to Art and Design, studying Technical Graphics at Birmingham Polytechnic.

My working life has been spent in Retail Design and Shopfitting project management - and over the past few years, I have picked up again on my hobby of drawing and painting.

Having lived in Shropshire since 1987, I am inspired by the beautiful surroundings that we have in the County and I try to capture this in my landscapes.

Nowadays, I prefer working with oil paint and thanks to my technical background, I see myself as more of a realist than an impressionist.

As a student, I was very much inspired by the work of the Pre-Raphaelites and I greatly admire the paintings of Ivan Shishkin (1832-1898) and Atkinson Grimshaw's (1836-1893) early landscapes. Their attention to detail I find fascinating.

Among contemporary aviation artists, I am inspired by the work of Iain Wyllie, Mark Postlethwaite and Ronald Wong - to name but a few.

But my interest in painting landscapes has been greatly influenced recently by the current work of Worcestershire artists R Heywood Coyle and Ron Humphries.

I always take my sketch pads and digital camera with me on holiday, and you will see some examples from my travels in the gallery.

Also coming back into my life is my teenage passion for military aviation - but this time round, I'm trying to capture the aircraft on canvas !

Thank you for visiting my web site and I hope you enjoy viewing my paintings.
